BuzzFeed needs no introduction. Its full name is BuzFeed, Inc. and it is an American media, entertainment, and online news company. Based in New York City, the United States, BuzzFeed has been around since 2006 and was formed by John S. Johnson III and Jonah Peretti. They aimed to keep an eye on viral content and were joined by The Huffington Post chairman and co-founder, Kenneth Lerer, to take things further. He started investing a lot of money in BuzzFeed and it took a little time to become one of the top Internet-based media companies in the US and worldwide.

A Little About Its History
BuzzFeed was originally known for its list-based stories, pop culture articles, and online quizzes. With time, it expanded its roots and grew into an excellent tech company. It started offering a wide range of stories on different topics like DIY, politics, business, science, technology, and others.
In 2011, it employed Ben Smith of Politico as editor-in-chief and the purpose was to boost the performance of the online platform in a specific period of time. Since then, long-form stories and reportage are encouraged. By 2021, the newsroom of the company was established. It was called BuzzFeed News that won different awards, including a National Magazine Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and the George Polk Award. Besides, it got a nomination for the Michael Kelly Award.

What’s So Sad?
BuzzFeed is known to generate huge revenues through native advertising, and the sad news is that its newsroom has been shut down. Not only this but also the company is laying off a significant number of employees. It is a matter of great concern for those who have spent years serving BuzzFeed.
However, according to the management, BuzzFeed News did not come up with their expectations and failed to generate the revenues they had thought of. Moving on, the company has plans to concentrate on news efforts via HuffPost, which it acquired in 2020 from Verizon.
